FEP Coated Fluorescent Tube
|
|
EncapSulite have been supplying covered fluorescent tubes to the food and associated industries since the late 1960s.
Today Encapsulite offer both Clear Polycarbonate Over-Sleeves and Coated Fluorescent Lamps. The Coated tubes have been supplied with both PET and Polycarbonate coatings. Both these coatings are suitable for lamps with a life expectancy of up to 8,000hrs maximum, but will vary from location to location. Unfortunately both these coatings have a limited life and will show signs of degradation within a short period of time.
With this in mind, and taking in to account the new ROHS recycling charge that will be applied to every lamp sold, and the labour costs involved with re-lamping, Encapsulite are now promoting the use of cost saving, but more expensive FEP coated lamps.
Cost saving but more expensive! How does that work?
FEP Teflon is the ultimate coating for fluorescent lamps. Quite simply, the material will outlast the life of the lamp, regardless of the environment, whether it is in an open or enclosed fitting, or subject to a hot or cold environment. FEP lamps can be used in IP65 light fittings, and only lose as little as 1% of the light, giving you 99% transmission.
As the FEP coating will last in excess of 50,000 hours we will only use the material on triphosphor lamps as these have an expected life of 20,000 hours.
With the life expectancy of a halophosphor tube only 8-10,000 hours there would be no benefit in coating these tubes in a more expensive material.
A triphosphor coated lamp lasts twice as long as a halophosphor, therefore saving you the re-lamping labour charge and only one ROHS recycling charge, not to mention the inconvenience of workmen on site.
So the cheapest coated lamp is not the most cost effective solution.
FEP coated lamps allow you to pay a little more now and save a lot later.
FEP coating can also be specified for use with extreme long life lamps to give a lamp and coating life up to 50,000 hours.
FEP coatings will not discolour or degrade and still contain glass should a lamp break at the end of its life, creating peace of mind for users and contractors, creating a better environment for everyone.
FEP coated lamps are recognised by the British retail consortium, and pass all hygiene audits associated with the food, packaging and pharmaceutical industries.
